Youth Delegates UNGA79 | Story

My name is Papangkorn Bunsophap, one of the two Thailand Youth Delegates to the United
Nations General Assembly 79th (UNGA79). I am taking part with the Permanent Mission of
Thailand to the UN, attending sessions of the Third Committee, which addresses social,
humanitarian, and cultural issues over a three-week period.
During my mandate at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, my key responsibilities
include: (1) delivering a statement alongside my colleague, (2) attending both formal and
informal meetings to support the Thailand Mission, (3) participating in United Nations Youth
Delegates (UNYDs) meetings and high-level side events, and (4) organizing Thailand's first-ever
side event in collaboration with Mexico's UNYDs. Here are two highlights:
Statement by the Thai Youth Delegates (3 Oct 2024) under Agenda Item 24: Social
Development, focusing on the role of youth in driving sustainable development, including (1)
Youth Engagement on Climate Actions, (2) Localizing SDG, and (3) Bridging Youth Network.
Side Events “Youth on Equality: Sharing Best Practices on Gender Equality for Social
Development” (14 Oct 2024) Thailand and Mexico UNYDs together hosted a Side Events with
The objective is to gather proposals that promote the participation of young women in
decision-making processes across both the public and private sectors, as well as in politics.
These proposals will also aim to enhance understanding of the challenges faced by youth of
different genders. The collected proposals will be compiled into a non-paper, which can then be
shared with participants and relevant organizations to drive meaningful change.
