Youth Delegates UNGA79 | Story

----------------------------------------------------

My name is Papangkorn Bunsophap, one of the two Thailand Youth Delegates to the United

Nations General Assembly 79th (UNGA79). I am taking part with the Permanent Mission of

Thailand to the UN, attending sessions of the Third Committee, which addresses social,

humanitarian, and cultural issues over a three-week period.

During my mandate at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, my key responsibilities

include: (1) delivering a statement alongside my colleague, (2) attending both formal and

informal meetings to support the Thailand Mission, (3) participating in United Nations Youth

Delegates (UNYDs) meetings and high-level side events, and (4) organizing Thailand's first-ever

side event in collaboration with Mexico's UNYDs. Here are two highlights:

Statement by the Thai Youth Delegates (3 Oct 2024) under Agenda Item 24: Social

Development, focusing on the role of youth in driving sustainable development, including (1)

Youth Engagement on Climate Actions, (2) Localizing SDG, and (3) Bridging Youth Network.

Side Events “Youth on Equality: Sharing Best Practices on Gender Equality for Social

Development” (14 Oct 2024) Thailand and Mexico UNYDs together hosted a Side Events with

The objective is to gather proposals that promote the participation of young women in

decision-making processes across both the public and private sectors, as well as in politics.

These proposals will also aim to enhance understanding of the challenges faced by youth of

different genders. The collected proposals will be compiled into a non-paper, which can then be

shared with participants and relevant organizations to drive meaningful change.
