International Engagement and Knowledge Exchange at IDE–JETRO, Tokyo
The School of Social Innovation, Mae Fah Luang University, proudly highlights the international engagement of Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanikun Chantra, Dean of the School of Social Innovation, during her official academic mission (8-12 December) in Tokyo, Japan.
As part of the IDE–JETRO Workshop and Policy Dialogue, Dr. Thanikun delivered a focused presentation on frequent climate-related disasters and transboundary environmental challenges in Chiang Rai and the Mekong region to an audience of nearly 300 Japanese business leaders, policy practitioners, and experts, participating both onsite and online.
Despite the complexity of the topic, the session generated strong engagement, particularly during the discussion and networking segments, reflecting growing international interest in climate risk, disaster governance, and cross-sector collaboration. The dialogue opened pathways for potential cooperation with Japanese private-sector actors, technology providers, and development institutions, highlighting how disaster risk reduction, innovation, and responsible investment can intersect.
This engagement underscores Japan’s long-standing commitment to Official Development Assistance (ODA) and demonstrates how knowledge exchange can simultaneously support local resilience in Chiang Rai while fostering meaningful international partnerships.
The School of Social Innovation remains committed to advancing global academic collaboration, policy-relevant research, and inclusive development pathways in addressing climate and disaster challenges across the Mekong region.
