Monitor and Analysis Unit

Asian Research Center for International Development (ARCID)

The research focus of the Asian Research Center for International Development (ARCID) is on East Asia and its interactions with Southeast Asia, the regions most important to Thailand. As a center located in Northern Thailand, ARCID could take advantage of its geography and concentrate on the Mekong region and its relations with the East Asian powers, namely China, Japan and possibly Korea. In conjunction with this research strategy, ARCID has set up a Monitor and Analysis (M&A) Unit surveying and analyzing major developments in East Asia.

ARCID would direct the M&A Unit to monitor the developments of China and Japan in the following areas: foreign affairs, political affairs, economics affair and socio-cultural affairs. It will compile a chronology of the major events and issues in the four areas. It will also have selected documentation and analysis on China and Japan. All these will be included in a publication entitled “ARCID China Update” and “ARCID Japan Update” published every six months. Essentially, these publications are meant to provide up-to-date information about China and Japan
